Genuine leather is not one material. The animal, the hide and the finish all change how a piece feels, how it wears and what it costs. POZA works with sheep, goat, cow and buff leather, and recommends the one that suits each product. Here is how they differ.
Sheep leather
Thin, light and very soft, with a fine, smooth grain. Sheep leather drapes well and feels luxurious in the hand. Because it is delicate, it suits pieces that are handled gently rather than carried hard every day.
Best for: women’s clutches, slim wallets, card holders and linings.
Goat leather
Light yet tough, with a natural pebbled grain that hides small marks. For its weight, goat leather is stronger than sheep, and it stays supple with use.
Best for: wallets, card cases, passport covers, small bags and everyday accessories.
Cow leather
The most versatile leather. Cow hides are large and thick, so they can be cut into big panels for bags, and they take almost any finish, from soft nappa to an embossed print. Most of the POZA catalogue is made in cow leather.
Best for: laptop bags, briefcases, backpacks, messenger bags, belts, wallets and gift sets.
Buff leather
Buffalo leather is thick and strong, with a bold, open grain and a rugged character. It holds its shape and stands up to heavy use, which makes it a good choice for structured and travel pieces.
Best for: duffle and travel bags, belts, heavy-duty bags and rugged accessories.
The finish matters as much as the leather
The same leather can look and feel very different depending on how it is finished. These are the finishes used across the POZA collection.
| Finish | What it is like |
|---|---|
| Softy | Soft, supple leather with a smooth, relaxed feel. |
| Printed | Embossed with an even grain pattern that hides everyday scuffs. |
| Printed milled | Printed grain that is drum-milled afterwards for a softer, tumbled texture. |
| Oil pull-up | Rich in oils and waxes. It lightens where it flexes and deepens into a patina with use. |
| Nappa | Fine, smooth and soft, with a refined surface. |
| Natural dry milled | Drum-milled with a natural finish for a pronounced, characterful grain. |
How we choose with you
We start from how the piece will be used, the look you want and your budget. Then we suggest a leather and finish and show you swatches or a sample. The final choice is always agreed with you before production begins.
Black, brown and tan are standard colours across all leathers. Other colours are available on request.
